AKQA in San Francisco is seeking a Lead/Principal AI Engineer to design, build and deploy production-grade AI systems and agentic workflows that power modern digital experiences. Qualifications

• Significant backend/platform or software engineering experience with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience delivering generative AI or agentic systems in production.
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js coding skills for production systems.
• Knowledge of LLM architectures, agentic workflows, retrieval strategies and hybrid retrieval techniques.
• Experience with AI evaluation, observability and CI/CD for AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop and deploy production-ready AI systems, including agentic workflows and RAG.
• Lead the technical design and implementation of AI-powered digital products and platforms.
• Design and integrate agent tools, APIs and MCP interfaces for secure enterprise integration.
• Develop architectures combining LLMs with specialized models and deterministic workflows.
• Establish CI/CD, automated evaluations and observability for AI services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate ideas into production-ready tech.
