Job summary

Legion seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to architect and build the intelligence layer behind our agentic AI platform. You’ll design retrieval, reasoning, planning, tool use, and adaptive navigation features across NLP, ML, and knowledge representations.

You will work on runnable ML systems that scale, with experience in reasoning loops, tool calling, and memory management to enable proactive, context-aware search experiences.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship or Green Card required due to US Government contract requirements.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or a related field
• 7+ years of experience in ML/MLOps engineering with a strong track record
• Proven experience designing, building, evaluating, and optimizing agentic AI systems, incl. reasoning loops, tool use, context management, multi-agent workflows
• Strong systems thinking with understanding of runtime complexity, infrastructure costs, and production scalability
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams
• Experience supporting production systems and debugging in distributed environments
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to accelerate research and development
• Growth mindset, willing to learn new tools, adapt quickly, and change course when needed
• Strong commitment to collaboration, psychological safety, and technical excellence

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of ML and NLP systems powering search, navigation, and agentic AI experiences.
• Innovate around core iterative reasoning, retrieval, and search systems with agentic AI.
• Develop, fine-tune, evaluate, and optimize ML models for production.
• Design and build systems involving knowledge graphs, semantic representations, and entity detection/extraction.
• Collaborate with product, platform, and engineering teams to own AI/ML solutions end-to-end.
• Make technical decisions considering algorithmic complexity, latency, and production cost.
• Build and maintain enterprise-grade products with high quality and reliability.
• Support production systems and debug distributed issues to ensure uptime.
• Communicate tradeoffs and limitations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay current with AI, NLP, and ML advances and apply them to product improvements
