Job summary

Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC seeks a Senior Prototyping Engineer to own the most complex aerospace prototype builds end-to-end, defining machining strategy, and mentoring the team in a fast-paced lab environment.

You will drive CAM programming for multi-axis parts, influence manufacturability early, and lead continuous improvement to increase throughput and reliability across programs. Strong leadership and hands-on CNC mastery are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent field
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• 10+ years machine shop experience operating complex CNC equipment
• Expert-level knowledge of CAM systems (HyperMILL, ESPRIT, or equivalent)
• Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• 4+ years overseeing continuous improvement initiatives
• Ability to visually inspect fine detail in precision components
• Ability to move lab equipment weighing up to 40 pounds

Responsibilities

• Own the most complex aerospace prototype builds end-to-end on multi-axis mills, lathes, and mill-turn equipment.
• Define the lab's advanced machining strategy and standardize it for scale.
• Partner with design engineering early to drive manufacturability and influence decisions.
• Set machining quality and throughput standards and lead improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machinists and prototyping engineers.
• Make independent judgments on first-of-its-kind parts balancing risk, cost, and schedule.
• Troubleshoot quality issues and drive root-cause corrective actions.
