Job summary

Mindscope in Hauppauge, NY seeks a senior mechanical designer to execute assigned design work for aerospace qualified pneumatic valve and control systems. You will use CAD tools to create valves, regulators, and related hardware, and coordinate drawings, BOMs, and production procedures.

Responsibilities include developing new designs from customer specs, solving manufacturing challenges, and overseeing prototypes and testing. Requires extensive hands-on and GD&T experience.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSME degree.
• 12 years minimum in the design and development of pneumatic valves or similar complex mechanical assemblies.
• Experience in design of detail mechanical components/control valves.
• Some project management.
• Technical Writing – Acceptance Test Procedures, Design Reports, Qualification Test Procedure/Reports.
• Hands-On Experience – Assembly, setup and testing, troubleshooting, laboratory testing.
• Electrical testing, precision testing using meters.
• Experience or an understanding of circuit boards is a plus.
• Experience in performing GD&T on complex assemblies based on the latest guidelines.
• CADD - Solidworks knowledge is preferred.
• Stress analysis - ANSYS/FEA knowledge is preferred.
• Manufacturing Practices (preferred) – Machining, welding, stamping, molding, etc.

Responsibilities

• Creates new designs in accordance with customer requirements and verifies compliance with performance and scope of work specifications.
• Generates design modifications to existing pneumatic designs to satisfy new customer requirements.
• Provides design solutions to manufacturing problems and sustaining the business.
• Coordinates production drawings and documentation creation.
• Reviews and drafts procedures for hardware development, acceptance and qualification testing.
• Provides technical and supervisory guidance to project personnel.
• Directs building of prototypes and development hardware.
• Prepares documentation for procurement, fabrication and testing.
