Job summary

Trident Systems is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Compute in Sterling, VA to lead architecture, design, and verification of advanced aerospace computing electronics, including flight computers and FPGA-based systems.

The role requires deep hands-on experience with high-speed interfaces, radiation-tolerant design, and end-to-end hardware development, reporting to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience designing complex electrical or electronic hardware.
• ownership of board-level designs from concept to verification.
• Experience with digital design involving processors, FPGAs, memory or similar devices.
• Experience with high-speed interfaces such as DDR/PCIe/Ethernet/LVDS.
• Ability to perform SI/PI analyses and design verification methods.
• Capability to lead design reviews and mentor engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Architect and design aerospace computing electronics including processors, FPGAs and interface circuitry.
• Develop schematics, component selections, interface definitions and detailed board designs.
• Perform worst-case, derating, timing, SI/PI analyses.
• Design high-speed interfaces (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet, LVDS).
• Develop radiation-mitigation approaches and support radiation testing.
• Lead schematic reviews, peer reviews and design trades.
• Prototype bring-up, debugging, and verification using lab instruments.
• Mentor junior engineers and support customer design reviews.
