Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced engineer to develop the fault management and system autonomy (FMSA) architecture across all mission phases. You will collaborate with SEIT and the broader program teams to deliver robust, safe human spaceflight systems.

The role emphasizes requirements development, testing, validation, and verification, with strong leadership, technical judgment, and a commitment to high standards. Relocation or travel may be involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or higher in a technical field relevant to aerospace systems.
• 5+ years applying systems engineering to aerospace programs.
• Experience with fault-tolerance architectures for safety-critical systems.
• Experience with autonomous system design, analysis, and testing.
• Familiarity with embedded software design/operation.
• Knowledge of major spacecraft subsystems and safety analyses (FMEA/FMECA, FTA, FHA).
• Ability to collaborate across engineering domains and communicate risks clearly.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

• Establish and manage fault management architectures, design principles and requirements.
• Define redundancy architecture, cross-strapping and fault containment regions for integrated systems.
• Architect, design and analyze autonomous behaviors, modes and states.
• Plan and execute system Fault Management and Autonomy Verification and Validation efforts.
• Monitor and approve fault management and autonomy design, development and testing.
• Drive process improvements with ownership and urgency.
