Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in California seeks a Sr. Principal Aeronautical Engineer – Subsystem Design Engineer to design and develop avionics, control surfaces, propulsion interfaces and environmental systems for advanced aircraft.

The role requires translating system requirements into subsystem specs, conducting trade studies and tests, and supporting integration across disciplines. The position is on-site in El Segundo or Palmdale, CA, with up to 25% travel and eligibility for

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of related engineering experience, or a higher degree with fewer years.
Experience with CAD and drafting tools and creation of engineering drawings and BOMs.
Experience with subsystem test planning, execution, and hardware-in-the-loop/bench testing.
Active US Government SECRET clearance or eligibility for SAP access (PAR) before start.

Responsibilities

Design and develop subsystem components (avionics, control surfaces, propulsion interfaces, environmental systems) to meet performance, weight and reliability targets.
Translate system requirements into detailed subsystem specifications and drawings; perform trade studies and analyses.
Plan and execute subsystem tests (bench, hardware-in-the-loop, environmental) and drive corrective actions.
Support configuration management, design reviews and risk assessments for producible designs.
