Job summary

The Hartford seeks an Ad & Associate Actuary to join our Spectrum actuarial team supporting $3.0B of Commercial Multi-Peril for the Small Business segment. The role emphasizes pricing, modeling, and continuous improvement of actuarial methodology through modern techniques.

The position offers hybrid work with Hartford, Chicago, or Charlotte offices; expect in-office work 3 days a week. Requires 4+ years in actuarial work and 6–7 exams, with strong SQL/R/Python skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 6–7 actuarial exams; 4+ years of experience.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong Excel skills required.
• Knowledge of SQL, VBA, R, Python, SAS or similar languages a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support update of Spectrum and E&S Loss Development Factors, Trend Selections, and Pricing Assumptions.
• Roll out latest Spectrum class plan to all states; create pricing factor analyses.
• Update slides for monthly leadership presentations on New Business results & profitability.
• Partner with Small Business Territory Actuarial Team to support ad hoc requests.
• Utilize SQL, R, and Python to enhance analytics.
• Lead and mentor junior team members to foster collaboration.
