Job summary

Waymo is seeking a seasoned actuary to lead end-to-end actuarial analyses, build pricing and reserving models, and drive automation inside a hybrid work arrangement. You will collaborate with Safety, Engineering, Product, Legal, and Finance to translate complex questions into actionable risk insights while mentoring teammates.

The role requires strong R/Python, SQL, and data visualization skills, FCAS preferred, and a degree in a quantitative field. Competitive base salary with bonus and equity.

Qualifications

• FCAS strongly preferred; ACAS will be considered for exceptional candidates with standout technical and domain depth.
• Strong commercial instincts translating ambiguous business problems into structured technical analyses to provide high-impact risk insights.
• Highly experienced actuary with a track record in casualty pricing, reserving, or risk modeling (commercial auto / transportation lines strongly preferred).
• Fluent in R or Python, with advanced proficiency in SQL, spreadsheet modeling, and data visualization tools.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong predisposition toward process automation and rapid learning of AI tools, libraries, and modern analytical platforms.
• Proven ability to scope ambiguous problems, research solutions, and clearly articulate quantitative findings to technical and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Drive End-to-End Actuarial Analyses: own data gathering, cleansing, modeling, and actionable presentations.
• Advance pricing and reserving models to quantify losses and support risk strategies.
• Champion automation and AI tooling to scale actuarial workflows.
• Quantify autonomous driving risks with novel metrics and benchmarks.
• Build scalable data pipelines using R, Python, and SQL.
• Collaborate with Safety, Engineering, Product, Legal, and Finance to translate questions into tractable problems.
• Institutionalize reproducible modeling standards and mentor teammates.
