CNA is seeking an Actuarial Senior Consultant to develop and recommend complex actuarial reserve strategies for CNA's Financial Lines business unit, supporting senior management in decision-making and strategy formulation.

This role oversees reserving techniques for the Financial Lines product suite (D&O, Cyber, E&O, and EPL), monitors external trends, and collaborates with business partners and Actuarial leaders. You will serve as a trusted advisor, providing actuarial analyses and insights to influence reserving decisions and strategies.

Candidates preparing for exams can participate in our Actuarial Education Program, which offers study support and exam raises as you develop your skills.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, typically with 1 day per week at one of our CNA actuarial hub locations: Chicago, IL; Radnor, PA; Warren, NJ; New York City, NY; or Walnut Creek, CA.

Depending on experience and qualifications, candidates may be hired as either an Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Consultant. The role generally requires 4-10+ years of related experience.

Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Perform complex actuarial calculations and studies to determine reserve recommendations, analyzing and modifying tools as needed.
  2. Provide analyses to assist in reserving strategies, complete quarterly reviews, and develop or enhance analytical tools.
  3. Build strong relationships with peers and business partners to influence strategy through insights and analytics.
  4. Monitor reserving and claim trends, sharing findings and recommendations with leadership and partners.
  5. Ensure accuracy of financial reports and participate in the financial close process as needed.
  6. Create and communicate technical actuarial analyses and reports.
  7. Guide less experienced team members and manage projects.
  8. Stay current with actuarial industry trends and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  9. Drive process innovation and maintain clear documentation of methods.

  • Strong knowledge of insurance functions and actuarial/statistical concepts.
  • Advanced technical actuarial expertise, especially in product-specific areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills.
  • Independent judgment in decision-making based on data.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and lead through change.
  • Ability to analyze and articulate business data and metrics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, R, SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, and related software.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent.
  • Typically 7+ years of related experience.
  • ACAS designation, working towards FCAS, or attained FCAS.

Base salary in Illinois, New York, California ranges from $97,000 to $185,000, depending on experience, skills, and location. In some jurisdictions, the range is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. CNA offers a comprehensive benefits package. For details, visit cnabenefits.com.
