Job summary

Blue Origin in Merritt Island, FL is seeking an experienced Thermal Engineer to design and develop active thermal control components for the MK1 Lunar Lander, from concept through flight operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, produce specifications and test plans, and apply thermal modeling and hand calculations to ensure mission success.

The role requires a BS in mechanical or aerospace engineering, 5+ years of experience, and strong attention to detail; preferred MS/PhD

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience.
• Expertise in thermal and fluid design fundamentals.
• Demonstrated experience building and testing thermal hardware.
• Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process.
• Experience with CAD software; preferably Creo.
• Demonstrated experience in managing hardware EBOMs, drawings and manufacturing artifacts.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
• Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, willing to perform low-level tasks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to earn trust and maintain positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop module and vehicle level active thermal components from conception through flight operations.
• Support internal or external development of active thermal components and assemblies.
• Collaborate with multi-discipline product teams to mature designs.
• Work with the thermal analysis group.
• Produce component specifications, test plans, and test reports.
• Analyze thermal performance using a range of methods from hand calculations to Thermal Desktop.
• Develop short-term and long-term development plans.
• Decide on make or buy for thermal components.
