Job description

About the Role:

We're a high-growth fintech building our accounting function from the ground up. We're looking for a Senior Accounting Manager who combines deep technical accounting expertise with a builder's mindset - someone who doesn't just maintain the books, but actively shapes the systems, processes, and controls that will scale with the business. This is an individual contributor role on a lean team, reporting directly to the Controller.

What You’ll Do:
Operations
  • Accounts payable, accruals, and payroll end-to-end (Deel, Rippling, Brex).
  • 1099 preparation and vendor compliance.
  • Process documentation and ongoing optimization across the accounting function.
Month-End Close
  • GL integrity, including bank and account reconciliations and close support.
  • Opex flux analysis and variance reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation of the close process.
Financial Reporting and Audit
  • Technical accounting research and application, including drafting memos and footnotes.
  • Support budgeting and financial planning, with optional opportunity to expand into FP&A over time.
  • External audit support, including PBC list preparation and auditor requests.
  • Assist with GAAP Financial statement preparation and review (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
How You Work:
  • Naturally curious, resourceful, and comfortable in ambiguity. You ask why, find answers when you don't know them, build from first principles, and move forward when the path isn't clearly defined.
  • You know what's worth automating and what isn't. You're tech-forward and comfortable using AI tools in your day-to-day work, with a clear-eyed understanding of where they add value and where they fall short.
  • Self-directed and collaborative. You drive workstreams end-to-end without hand-holding, and know when to bring others in.
  • Detail-obsessed and action-oriented. You own accuracy, balance speed with controls, and aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves on a lean team.
What You’ll Need:
  • 7+ years of well-rounded accounting experience spanning public accounting (Big 4 or similar) and high-growth startups.
  • CPA required.
  • Deep command of core accounting processes: close, AP, accruals, amortization, GL, reconciliations, reporting, and controls.
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany accounting.
  • Solid understanding of revenue accounting principles (ASC 606), and loan accounting (ASC 310).
  • Proven experience implementing or migrating an ERP, with strong fluency in how accounting systems should be structured to scale.
  • Advanced Excel skills (XLOOKUPs, pivot tables); comfortable working with large datasets, data flows, and identifying root causes of discrepancies.
  • Experience managing or supporting financial audits as a primary contact or key contributor.
Nice to Have:
  • SQL experience or willingness to learn.
  • Experience in fintech or lending.
  • FP&A experience (forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling).
Compensation:

This role has an annual starting salary range $180,000 - $200,000 + equity + benefits. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to your individual skills and experience.

Work Authorization:

At this time, Settle is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Benefits & Perks That We Offer:

Flexible PTO, flexible and remote work culture, competitive compensation and equity, health, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents, 401k, HSA/FSA, and an Employee Referral Program!

Our Commitment to You:

At Settle we know that cultivating diversity and fostering an inclusive work environment is critical to our impact and success. We create an environment where no individual is advantaged or disadvantaged because of their background.
