Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Senior Accounting Manager to help guide the accounting function as the company continues to grow. This role owns the month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls, provides mentorship and support to the accounting team.
What You'll Do
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in line with GAAP.
- Prepare and present monthly financial results, key variances, and business insights to senior leadership.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, including inventory, fixed assets, and cost of goods sold.
- Provide guidance, review, and mentorship to accounting team members, supporting their professional growth.
- Partner with Leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers, and support annual audit and tax filing processes.
- Maintain relationships with outside stakeholders, including vendors and lenders.
- Evaluate opportunities to automate manual accounting processes and improve system utilization.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities to improve margin and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filing requirements across the states where the company operates.
- Complete monthly sales tax filings and related reconciliations, as needed.
- Support accounting system improvements and process automation as the company scales.
What You Bring
- Active, valid CPA license preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
- Prior experience mentoring or providing guidance within an accounting team preferred.
- Experience in a multi-state retailer preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices.
- Experience with inventory and cost accounting in a retail, e-commerce, or distribution environment is a strong plus.
- Experience implementing, upgrading, or optimizing an ERP or accounting system is a plus.
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills; ERP system experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
