Job summary

Steven Douglas is partnering with a multi-location retail organization to hire a Senior Manager of Accounting. This leader will run core accounting operations, build scalable processes, and develop a high-performing team, while keeping financial reporting accurate, timely, and audit ready.

Responsibilities include overseeing the close, mentoring staff, ensuring US GAAP compliance, supporting audits, and driving automation and system improvements across the finance function.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Active CPA license.
• 7–9+ years progressive accounting experience.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience building and scaling accounting processes.
• Experience leading accounting teams.
• Proficiency with SAP or comparable ERP; advanced Excel.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Steven Douglas is partnering with an established, multi-location retail organization to hire a Senior Manager of Accounting. Reporting to the Director of Accounting & Controls, this leader will run core accounting operations, build scalable processes, and develop a high-performing team, while keeping financial reporting accurate, timely, and audit ready.

Responsibilities

• Direct corporate accounting functions, including the general ledger and period-end close
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of accounting professionals
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Safeguard balance sheet integrity through rigorous reconciliations, variance analysis, and timely issue resolution
• Ensure all assigned accounting areas and transactions follow US GAAP
• Head up internal and external audit support, including SOX controls, documentation, and remediation
• Create, document, and refine accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Spot inefficiencies and risks in current processes and drive automation, system enhancements, and reporting upgrades that improve accuracy, scalability, and timeliness
• Collaborate with FP&A, Operations, IT, and other business partners to support accounting needs and company initiatives
• Take on complex special projects such as process redesigns, system implementations, new accounting standard adoptions, and integrations
• Act as a hands-on leader who balances strategic oversight with direct execution, stepping into any accounting function or providing interim coverage during peak close periods, organizational changes, or system transitions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Active CPA license
• 7 to 9+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP
• Track record of building, standardizing, and scaling accounting processes in a growing company
• Experience managing and developing accounting teams
• Proficiency with SAP or a comparable ERP, plus advanced Excel skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
• Excellent communicator who partners well with non-financial stakeholders

Preferred

• Retail or multi-location industry background
• Public accounting experience, with Big 4 or regional firm experience a plus
• Experience with SOX compliance and audit readiness
