Our client, a well-established upstream oil & gas company with significant U.S. operations, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Accounting & Finance team. This role focuses on technical accounting, financial reporting, SOX compliance, and strategic accounting initiatives. It offers excellent visibility across the organization and the opportunity to work on complex accounting matters while partnering with leadership and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Research and apply IFRS guidance to complex accounting transactions.
- Prepare technical accounting memorandums, position papers, and supporting analyses.
- Support accounting for acquisitions, divestitures, asset retirement obligations (ARO), impairments, leases, revenue recognition, and derivatives/hedge accounting.
- Assist with external financial reporting and annual reporting requirements.
- Support SOX compliance, internal controls, documentation, testing, and process improvements.
- Analyze financial results, account balances, and key reporting metrics, providing insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, auditors, consultants, and global finance teams.
- Participate in acquisitions, integrations, special projects, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Recommend enhancements to accounting processes, reporting tools, and system functionality.
- Mentor junior accounting staff and provide technical guidance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- CPA or active pursuit of CPA certification required.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a Big Four public accounting firm.
- Experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, audit, SOX, or internal controls.
- Upstream oil & gas experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of IFRS required.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with Quorum or a similar ERP system is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
