JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant - Systems and Reporting reports to the Sr Director of Accounting & Treasury and plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency and integrity of the organization’s accounting operations and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with a proven track record in optimizing accounting systems, managing system integrations and enhancing financial processes and reporting. The role is responsible for maintaining and improving accounting systems and processes, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
This is a remote position with occasional in person meetings required. Candidates must be located in Northern CA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, documentation and implementation of accounting systems, policies and internal controls
- Continuously assess and recommend process and systems improvements to enhance accounting operations.
- Drive the implementation and optimization of accounting ERP systems and related modules (e.g., procure-to-pay, cash management)
- Ensure compliance with internal control frameworks and accounting principles; maintain robust internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial data
- Identify and implement automation opportunities and process enhancements to streamline accounting workflows
- Support the accounting management team during the company’s annual audit, including preparation of workpapers and financial statement disclosures
- Collaborate with external vendors and internal stakeholders on system-related projects and upgrades
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and variance reports
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial data, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and accounting standards
- Develop and maintain GAAP-compliant processes for calculating and recording accounting entries; review and update methodologies as needed
- Prepare or support monthly account reconciliations for key accounts
- Support the efficiency and accuracy of the month-end close process
- Produce actionable financial reports for operations management team and company stakeholders
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of accounting procedures and system workflows
- Contribute to the preparation of the annual budget and related analyses
- Mentor and develop members of the accounting team in systems and process best practices
- Collaborate on risk assessment and problem-solving for identified company risk areas
- Analyze other financial and operational metrics as needed
- Complete other projects as assigned

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree with concentration in Accounting, Finance or related field
- 5+ years of progressive work experience, including significant involvement in systems or process improvement
- Hands-on experience with ERP system implementations is required
- CPA or equivalent professional certification is highly desirable
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls
- Expertise in identifying and implementing process improvements and automation solutions within accounting operations
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and financial consolidations
- Prior accounting experience in a multi-unit retail or similar complex environment preferred
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office with exceptional skills in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, advanced formulas, data analysis)
- Demonstrating strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex technical and financial issues.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work professionally and effectively with people at all levels of the organization with physical locations spread throughout the portfolio
- Ability to work with interruptions, changing priorities and a busy work environment with tight deadlines
- Self-motivated with high energy with a positive attitude
- Self-managing with the ability to work independently to accomplish tasks
- Displays good judgment, confidentiality and diplomacy in handling important company information and communicating with others

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to walk and stand up to 8 hours/day and/or sit for extended period of time. Team members may be exposed to cleaning chemicals or airborne particles and will be required to wear designated PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as directed. Team members are occasionally required to use hands and fingers for handle or feel; occasional reach, push and pulling with arms and hands; occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and occasional reach and twist, including side-to-side movements. The team member may be required to occasionally lift, carry or move up to 25 pounds and may seldom be required to lift, carry or move 26-50 pounds.
