Job summary

The Defense Human Resources Activity seeks an Accountant (GS-0510-14) to join the Risk and Compliance Division in Alexandria, VA. This role supports financial reporting, coordination with DFAS and DAI, and independent audit activities.

It requires extensive interaction with auditors, development of assertion packages, and leadership in internal controls testing in line with FIAR, FFMEA, and OMB standards. Telework is eligible, with a Secret clearance required.

Qualifications

• Graduate education may be used to meet the individual occupational requirements; transcripts may be required.
• Unofficial transcripts acceptable at time of application; official transcripts required before firm offer.

Responsibilities

• Performs Financial Reporting with DFAS and DAI data to ensure timely, accurate transactions.
• Conducts feeder system reconciliations and produces accurate financial statements.
• Interacts with external auditors (IPA firms, DoW IG) and senior leadership; manages auditor inquiries and PBC requests.
• Develops and certifies annual Assertion Package for Reporting Entity assessable units; ensures internal controls over financial reporting are effective.
• Coordinates management responses to Notifications of Finding and Recommendation (NFRs) and maintains independence of control testing.
• Leads internal controls testing and FIAR-aligned evaluations across major process areas (Hire-to-Retire, Order-to-Cash, etc.).
• Identifies control gaps, provides strategic compliance recommendations to executives, and monitors corrective actions.
