Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a Senior Accountant based in Manhattan to join a lean finance team. Reporting to the CFO, you will own financial reporting and accounting across private credit funds and the management company, with opportunities to advance toward Assistant Controller and Controller.

You will work with third-party fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors, ensuring accurate reporting, cash management, and operational improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Solid foundation in US GAAP, partnership accounting, and investment fund structures.
• Experience with private credit, PE, or hedge fund accounting is preferred.
• Ability to own financial reporting, budgeting, and process improvements.

• Compensation: $160,000 - 200,000 TC (Base + Bonus)
• Manhattan Based
• Will oversee/review Fund Admin work. Handle in-house Management Company accounting.
• Act as the Right Hand to the CFO. They are building out the Accounting/Finance Team. You will have the opportunity to grow into Assistant Controller -> Controller.
• Open to candidates with PE or Credit accounting backgrounds. Fund Accounting experience can be at a Fund or Admin. Also open to candidates out of Public, but must have audited PE or Credit Funds.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our lean, growing finance team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role offers broad exposure across both private credit investment vehicles and management company accounting functions.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in partnership and alternative investment accounting, combined with a desire to take ownership across financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, and operational enhancements in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Private Credit Fund Accounting & Operations

• Coordinate day-to-day operations with third-party fund administrators, external auditors, and tax advisors.
• Maintain loan interest accrual schedules and reconcile books against loan administration records.
• Assist with the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly investor reports.
• Support the quarterly portfolio valuation process and track record maintenance.
• Help execute capital calls, distributions, and fund performance calculations.

Management Company Accounting

• Assist in the month-end closing process, financial statement preparation, and management reporting.
• Support budgeting, expense allocation, and variance analysis for revenue and operating expenses.
• Maintain the 13-to-16 week rolling cash forecast and assist with daily liquidity management.
• Assist with firmwide compliance administration in coordination with third-party compliance partners.

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Projects

• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows, strengthen internal controls, and integrate AI tools into daily finance operations.
• Partner cross-functionally with investment, compliance, investor relations, and operations teams.
• Participate in system implementations, strategic finance initiatives, and ad hoc analysis for senior leadership.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Certification: CPA (or CPA track) preferred.

Experience: 3-6 years of accounting experience, ideally within public accounting (financial services practice) or directly at an alternative asset manager (private credit, private equity, or hedge fund).

Technical Skills: Solid foundation in US GAAP, partnership accounting, and investment fund structures. Familiarity with management company accounting concepts.
