Filter Services Inc./Mission Filtration (FSI/M) in Des Plaines, IL is seeking a Senior Accountant to own day-to-day accounting operations, multi-state tax compliance, and month-end close. This onsite role requires a system-savvy professional capable of managing A/P, A/R portals, and complex schedules.

You will audit amortization schedules, provide financial analysis to support leadership, and partner with teams to improve processes.

Responsabilités

• Full-cycle transactional ownership including A/P lifecycle and vendor management.
• Manage customer A/R portals, billing, collections, and dispute resolution.
• Oversee corporate cards and expenses; review Ramp platform activity.
• Post weekly banking activity and assist in month-end close.

Summary:

The Senior Accountant position is fully onsite in our Des Plaines headquarters and will take full ownership of critical day-to-day accounting operations, transactional cycles, and month-end close responsibilities. This role requires an independent, system-savvy professional capable of managing end-to-end Accounts Payable (A/P), customer portal Accounts Receivable (A/R), and a complex multi-state sales tax environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate will audit and overhaul existing amortization schedules, identify efficiencies, and provide impactful financial analysis to support leadership decision-making.

What you'll do day to day:

Full-Cycle Transactional Ownership

• Accounts Payable (A/P): Assume comprehensive responsibility for the full A/P lifecycle, ensuring accurate coding, vendor management, and timely payments.
• Accounts Receivable (A/R): Take over management of dedicated customer A/R portals, ensuring precise billing, collections, and dispute resolution.
• Corporate Cards & Expenses: Oversee, review, and post corporate credit card activity. Accounting review and approval of employee expense reports and maintain administrative oversight of the Ramp platform.
• Banking: Posting of weekly banking activity.

Month-End Close, Payroll, & Asset Management

• Payroll & Benefits Accounting: Manage the monthly posting of corporate payrolls and health insurance allocations.
• Process Improvement: Evaluate current accounting processes, schedules, and software systems to design and implement streamlined workflows to gain efficiencies.

Tax Compliance & Account Reconciliations (Core Focus)

• Sales Tax Ownership: Prepare and file state returns for all of our FSI and Mission locations. Learn the taxing matrix and assist in the application and update as local state tax rules change.
• Tax Systems Management: Serve as the contact for Avalara; and be able to handle any sales tax issues resulting from the Avalara to NetSuite integration.
• Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts (sales tax, accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, inventory received not billed, etc.)

Budgeting, & Operational Support

• Budgeting Support: Actively assist management throughout the corporate budgeting process.
• Operational Backup: Learn and serve as the primary backup for computing and verifying sales commissions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
• Experience: 4 to 7 years of progressive corporate accounting experience, ideally in a role handling high-volume transactions and multi-state compliance.

Technical Skills:

• Advanced expertise in Avalara is highly preferred (troubleshooting, rules setup, integration).
• High proficiency in modern corporate card/expense platforms (e.g., Ramp).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (vlookups/xlookups, pivot tables, data cleaning, rebuilding broken schedules).

• Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of cleaning up messy schedules or historical data; ability to work autonomously and handle strict deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills along with strong data entry skills
• Good listening and communication skills
• High attention to detail combined with strong data entry skills to ensure absolute accuracy in banking, voids, and invoice processing.
• Strong ethics and compliance focus when handling high-dollar accounts, approvals, and internal audit controls.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Salary range: $73,000 - $83,000 yearly + bonus potential
