Job summary

Urban Ventures in Minneapolis is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to manage daily financial data and monthly reconciliations to support our strategic goals. The role oversees core accounting processes, ensures GAAP compliance for a nonprofit, and coordinates with program teams to maintain accurate reporting.

The position handles AP/AR, payroll, internal controls, and financial analysis, contributing to mission-driven operations and stewardship of resources.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in accounting required; bachelor’s preferred.
• 3–5 years’ experience in accounting or nonprofit environment preferred.
• Familiarity with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, check processing, bank deposits and credit card cycles
• Prepare general ledger entries, including reconciliations and month-end close
• Assist in audit materials and compliance (tax returns)
• Process bi-weekly payroll
• Provide financial support for Urban Ventures and programs
• Perform financial analysis and reporting (grant funding, departmental transactions)
• Collaborate with Operations, HR and Facilities for onboarding/offboarding
• Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets
• Monitor adherence to controls and suggest process improvements
• Maintain financial records and asset files per retention policy
• Contribute to other projects as assigned
