Job summary

Tessera is a national non-profit focused on creating opportunities for people with disabilities and veterans. We seek a Senior Accountant to manage complex accounting across states, ensuring compliance and accurate financial reporting.

You will partner with Finance, Payroll, HR, and Operations to implement scalable processes, lead month-end close, and support audits while advancing Tessera’s mission and control environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial close processes.
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with ERP, payroll/HRIS, tax and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead state/tax setup for operations entering new states, including research, registrations, taxability assessment, system configuration and readiness validation.
• Coordinate state/local registrations and ongoing maintenance for sales/use tax, payroll withholding, unemployment, and other tax accounts.
• Maintain a centralized compliance calendar and state setup matrix documenting registrations, filing frequencies, ownership, deadlines, and records.
• Research state requirements, document conclusions, and escalate issues needing legal/payroll-tax advice.
• Serve as Finance lead for cost allocations and accounting impacts across entities and locations.
• Review HR/payroll data for accuracy and alignment with org structures; assess downstream impacts to payroll costing and GL.
