MacKay is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the IDOT Bureau of Maintenance. You will prepare accurate financial statements and conduct reconciliations to ensure reliable reporting while traveling to district sites for audits.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, 5+ years of accounting experience, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-focused environment. IDOT process experience is a plus, with competitive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Master’s preferred).
• 5+ years of accounting experience (general or tax).
• Experience with computerized ledger systems.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment.
• Experience with IDOT processes is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and monitor spending on contracts including commodities.
• Conduct monthly and quarterly reconciliations of funding accounts to ensure accurate reporting.
• Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and notify relevant teams for rectification.
• Review maintenance transactions and invoices as needed.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts for obligation purposes—estimated vs actual spends.
• Coordinate semi-annual commodity audits as an internal check with Financial Services.
• Maintain regular ledger activity to ensure accurate spend reporting.
