Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Senior Accountant for our Dallas, TX office. In a hybrid setting (2-3 days in-office), you will manage general ledger activities, prepare financial statements, and lead reconciliations to support accurate reporting.

You will collaborate with finance partners, oversee ledger integrity, and mentor colleagues on accounting policies and procedures. A Bachelor's in accounting is required and 5+ years in GL accounting is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience with general ledger accounting practices, policies, and audit requirements.
• Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with automated accounting and finance systems as well as Account Reconciliations.
• Skilled in planning projects and working against deadlines to provide the end product.
• Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of Association staff.
• Skilled in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Leads and participates in compilation and analysis of financial information, including journal entries to general ledger and restricted fund accounting.
• Runs and analyzes income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and other accounting reports; coaches or guides others as needed.
• Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.
• Records accruals and prepayments, allocations, and other journal entries.
• Apply understanding of Fixed Assets, Lease Accounting, Liabilities and Restricted Net Assets.
• Review and approve general ledger reconciliations; ensure internal controls compliance.
• Conducts special projects and provides mentorship to colleagues.
• Collaborates with internal partners in Finance and across departments.
