Job summary

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage program accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The role supports audits, forecasting, and financial analysis, partnering with program leadership and the Accounting Manager to strengthen financial oversight and drive mission delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field is required; an equivalent combination may be considered.
• Five years of progressively responsible accounting experience including financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close, and analysis.
• Experience supporting audits, budgeting/forecasting, and work in grant-funded, nonprofit environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares accurate and timely financial statements for assigned programs, including journal entries and close processes.
• Reviews results for compliance, budget variances and recommends corrective actions to protect funding integrity.
• Develops annual budgets and forecasts to support planning and decision-making.
• Prepares audit schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Maintains knowledge of funding source regulations and reporting requirements.
• Monitors account activity and communicates exceptions to supervisors.
• Manages workload to meet deadlines for reports and reconciliations.
• Builds relationships with staff, funding representatives, and stakeholders to ensure accurate information exchange.
• Participates in staff meetings and training to stay informed in program areas.
