Job summary

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., parent to Liberty Utilities, is seeking an Accountant III to manage accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of financial information. The role supports month-end close, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, auditing, and process improvements in a collaborative, hybrid environment.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor degree, has GAAP experience, and excels in journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
• Experience in utility, energy, or regulated industries is a plus.
• Experience with SAP systems preferred and strong Excel proficiency.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and controls; ability to prepare journal entries and reconciliations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify trends and variances.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with closing schedules.
• Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and supporting schedules.
• Investigate variances and unusual account activity; support financial statement disclosures.
• Maintain reconciliations for balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
• Support regulatory reporting, audits, and process improvements.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analyses.
• Coordinate audit responses and implement control enhancements.
