Job summary

SmartStop Self Storage, a leading REIT, seeks a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in California. You will assist with the monthly close, consolidation, internal controls, financial statements, and audits, while supporting external reporting and acquisitions activity.

The role is hybrid after training, with on-site days Tue–Thu and WFH on Mon/Fri from our Ladera Ranch office. CPA preferred but not required; 2+ years in public or private accounting and strong GAAP knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or comparable work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in public accounting or private company accounting.
• CPA or in process of licensure preferred, not required.
• Prior REIT experience is a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting.
• Proficient with accounting software.
• Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monthly close process and financial statement consolidation.
• Maintain internal controls and general ledger.
• Prepare financial statements and schedules for internal and external reporting.
• Support annual audits and SEC filings.
• Coordinate with property accountants on monthly reporting.
• Assist with acquisitions integration.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
