Job summary

The State of South Carolina First Steps is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the finance team and support accounting, reporting, and grant oversight. Under supervision, you will develop general ledger analyses, reconcile accounts, and prepare financial reports for internal management and external funders.

You will apply expertise in state government accounting and Excel, produce routine and ad hoc reports, and assist auditors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business and at least three years of professional accounting experience.
• A high proficiency in Excel.
• Knowledge of state government accounting and reporting processes is beneficial but not required.
• Proven ability to analyze complex accounting data and complete general ledger analyses and reconciliations.
• Experience with SCEIS, BEX and Business Objects accounting and reporting systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and complete routine and ad hoc GL account and payroll distribution analyses and reconciliations.
• Prepare updating monthly financial status and grant expenditure analyses and reports.
• Assist in completing financial reports required by external funders and prepare grant draw requests and contract billings.
• Complete routine and ad hoc internal and external financial reports, including monthly budget vs actual reports.
• Assist with coding of purchase requisitions, accounts payable invoices and cash receipts; back up processing of cash receipts.
• Support auditors with information requests and monitor compliance with policies governing agreements.
• Identify improvements in accounting and reporting processes and support backup for finance director.
