Job summary

Charleston County Government is seeking an Accountant I to assist the Senior Finance Officer with technical oversight, financial analysis, and accounting activities within the Community Development and Revitalization department. The role supports data entry across grant systems, prepares financial reports, and maintains proper audit trails.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, at least five years of experience, and a valid SC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years or more of successful experience in a financial position.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• Must possess a valid SC Driver's license (or obtain within three months of hire) and meet the County's motor vehicle policy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Finance Officer with data entry in grant and financial management systems and reconciles systems for audit trails.
• Prepares required financial reports in compliance with 2 CFR Part 200 and HUD grant requirements; maintains data for budget reporting.
• Ensures accounting systems operate correctly, corrects errors, and resolves system problems.
• Maintains GAAP knowledge for local government financial reporting and interprets accounting reports.
• Supports payroll functions for the department under Finance Officer oversight.
• Creates purchase orders and quick claims in the County's financial system with oversight.
