Job summary

Cooper University Health Care in Camden, NJ seeks an experienced accountant to manage general and grant accounting tasks. You will prepare financial records, reports and invoices, and support leadership with financial analysis and decisions.

4+ years in accounting, including grant work, is expected, with ERP/GL proficiency and strong spreadsheet skills. The role emphasizes GAAP compliance, post-award project accounting, and collaboration with management across departments within a healthcare

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience, including general or grant accounting.
• Experience in sponsored project administration or post-award accounting.
• Experience with account analysis, balance sheet review, journal posting, and bank reconciliations.
• Intermediate spreadsheet skills; familiarity with ERP/GL software.
• Healthcare accounting and grant/foundation accounting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform full professional accounting duties: process financial transactions, prepare records, reports and invoices.
• Guide management through financial decision making and ensure compliance with fiscal rules and policies.
• Ensure GAAP, GASB and FASB compliance, including federal grant guidelines (2 CFR 200).

Short Description

• Individual should have a strong understanding of accounting theory.


• This includes but not limited to thorough knowledge of the P&L and Balance Sheet, as well as the impact of journal entries to all financial statements.


• Individual should have strong analytical skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management.


• Individual will be required to guide staff accountants when necessary and in the absence of manager.


• Under moderate supervision, performs full performance professional level accounting work; processes financial transactions: prepares financial records, reports and invoices; and guides management through financial decision making to ensure compliance with fiscal rules and polices in accordance with using grant guidelines, including GAAP, GASB, FASB accounting regulations, and 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance).

Experience Required

Minimum 4 years of experience in general or grant accounting fields.

Experience in sponsored project (post-award) administration or professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures and preparing financial reports.

Experience with account analysis, balance sheet review, journal posting, bank reconciliations.

Intermediate level spreadsheet skills; experience with ERP/GL financial reporting software.

Preferred, not required: Healthcare experience and grant/foundation accounting

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in accounting, finance or business administration and at least four years accounting experience.
