Job summary

Marin County Employees’ Retirement Association (MCERA) seeks a Senior Accountant to perform advanced accounting and budget-related work under the CFO. Responsibilities include quarterly and annual financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring proper reporting of investment activities.

The ideal candidate will supervise staff, manage deadlines for audits and external submissions, and maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, business administration, economics, or related field with 12 semester units in accounting and 3 years of professional accounting experience.
• Public agency experience is highly desirable.
• Education may be substituted year-for-year with appropriate accounting education units.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily, quarterly and annual accounting functions, including reconciling accounts and reporting for MCERA board and stakeholders.
• Ensure accurate reporting of investment activities and provide required documentation to agencies (County of Marin, IRS, State of California).
• Supervise Accounting Technician and provide lead direction and training to staff.
• Audit, analyze and evaluate complex financial data and maintain complex accounting records.
