Job summary

Merced County Community Action is seeking an experienced Accountant to perform intermediate financial, statistical and accounting duties under general supervision of the Senior Accountant.

The role includes payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and maintaining various financial records and reports essential to the agency’s operations. Candidates should have strong Excel skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Qualifications

  • AA Degree in Accounting and 2 years accounting experience required.
  • Minimum of three years working for a public agency with demonstrated ability in performing required job functions.
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets and accounting databases.
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality of agency and employee information.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement employee payroll, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable.
  • Maintain payables, receivables, payroll, retirement and/or similar statistical records.
  • Assist in developing financial record keeping and/or accounting systems.
  • Prepare technically difficult statistical and/or accounting reports from various sources.
  • Prepare grant expenditure claims and deposits.
  • Balance accounts and research errors.
  • Explain regulations/procedures to departments using independent judgment.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks to support department and Agency goals.
  • Maintain filing systems for easy location and retrieval of documents.
