Job summary

County of Marin is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform advanced governmental accounting work, including leading close processes, financial reporting, and audits. The role requires in-depth knowledge of GAAP/GASB and strong analytical skills within a public-sector context.

The position is full-time, on-site in Marin County, supporting the Department of Finance's Accounting Division. The incumbent will research complex issues, improve processes, and may supervise staff or provide lead direction

Qualifications

Public sector accounting and reporting experience.
Advanced ledger maintenance and complex reconciliations.
Audit preparation, documentation, and internal control evaluation.
ERP systems and spreadsheet modeling for data analysis.
Process improvement and SOP development for financial workflows.
Collaborative leadership and staff mentorship.

Responsibilities

Performs complex accounting activities across GL, subledgers, A/R, A/P, payroll, cash, assets, grants and projects.
Prepares journal entries, reconciliations and schedules; coordinates month-end/year-end close.
Prepares financial statements and supports audits with schedules and documents.
Analyzes revenues, expenditures and trends; implements internal controls to safeguard assets.
Develops accounting policies and SOPs; improves financial systems and reporting.
Provides training and guidance to staff; oversees assigned personnel when applicable.
