Job summary

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. is seeking an Accountant III to perform accurate monthly Close, reconcile ledgers, and provide reporting support for Liberty Utilities. This role collaborates with operations, regulatory, and FP&A teams to ensure financial integrity and regulatory compliance under US GAAP.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree with strong Excel and GAAP knowledge, and experience with SAP is preferred. It offers a competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent.
• Utility, energy, or regulated industry experience considered an asset.
• Experience with SAP systems preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to identify trends, variances, and financial irregularities.
• Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with closing schedules.
• Perform month-, quarter-, and year-end close activities.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and schedules.
• Investigate and explain financial variances and unusual activity.
• Support financial statement preparation and disclosures.
• Prepare balance sheet and GL account reconciliations.
• Monitor and resolve outstanding accounting issues and aged balances.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
• Support compliance with US GAAP, SOX, and company policies.
• Maintain documentation to support accounting positions and results.
• Provide accounting guidance to operations and corporate teams.
• Assist business partners with expense coding and accounting questions.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc analysis.
• Prepare audit schedules and responses.
• Coordinate audit requests.
• Assist with audit recommendations and control enhancements.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting.
• Support automation initiatives and system enhancements.
• Participate in special projects and finance transformations.]
