Job summary

Liberty Utilities, part of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., seeks an Accounting Manager to lead general accounting and financial reporting for designated Liberty Utilities operations. You will oversee month-end close, balance sheet integrity, regulatory compliance, and audit support while driving improvements in efficiency and accuracy.

You will partner with Finance, Regulatory, Operations, and others, developing a high-performing team and ensuring adherence to US GAAP and SOX controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent required.
• CPA designation required (CPA Canada or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and internal controls.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or other regulated industries.
• FERC/NARUC expertise/compliance.
• Experience with SAP.
• Knowledge of regulatory accounting practices.
• Experience supporting SOX compliance and external audits.
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
• Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting analyses.
• Monitor close performance metrics and drive improvements to reduce cycle times and enhance quality.
• Ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
• Support regulatory filings, rate applications, and related accounting analyses.
• Coordinate responses to regulatory, audit, and financial information requests.
• Lead process improvement initiatives across the Record-to-Report function.
