Job summary

The Harris County Auditor's Office is seeking a Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting to support monthly and annual financial reporting, including the ACFR. The role ensures GAAP/GASB compliance and collaborates with internal teams and external auditors to deliver accurate financial information.

Ideal candidates will have strong Excel skills, experience with large ERP systems (PeopleSoft preferred), and 3–5 years of governmental accounting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with 24 accredited accounting hours.
• 3–5 years of governmental or public accounting experience.
• Strong financial statement preparation experience and understanding of governmental accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare major annual ACFR reports for Harris County and related entities.
• Complete monthly financial reporting to Commissioners Court.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external auditors for data.
• Support additional annual reporting such as Juvenile Board and Community Supervision filings.
• Maintain organized documentation for extensive reporting files.
• Adapt to changing standards and workload, especially during audit season.
