Job summary

The County of Kauaʻi is seeking an Accountant III to perform difficult professional accounting work within the fund control and accounting systems. The role involves analyzing fiscal data, advising management, and ensuring proper financial reporting across county funds.

Selected candidate will handle trial balances, closing entries, and preparation of financial statements, with potential responsibility for higher-level accounting duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in accounting or a related field.
• Three (3) years of professional accounting experience.
• Experience maintaining general journals, general ledger accounts, balance sheets and related financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Collects, compiles, classifies, and evaluates fiscal data.
• Prepares financial statements and reports, takes trial balances and makes adjusting/closing entries.
• Maintains fund and propriety control ledgers reflecting budget operations.
• Advises departments on appropriations and expenditures.
• Interprets laws and directives and guides lower-level staff in accounting procedures.
