Qualifications

  • Knowledge of accounting rules, procedures, and compliance.

Senior Accountant (Finance and Accounting)

THE WORK YOU WILL DO

This position performs a variety of professional accounting duties with a primary focus on administering intradistrict expense payments and providing financial support. As a Senior Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting the Florida Senate by ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient processing of financial transactions that enable Senators to serve their district effectively.


The Office of Legislative Services provides centralized administrative, management and support services to the Florida Senate, House of Representatives and other legislative offices. This position reports to the Senate Intradistrict Account (IDA) Program Manager in the Office of Finance and Accounting.

Financial Disclosure:

Pursuant to sections 112.3144 and 112.3145, F.S., this position is required to electronically file aForm 1 –Statement of Financial Interests with the Florida Commission on Ethics within 30 days of hire.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
  • Creates financial records, monitors budgetary activities, and reviews status reports
  • Answers inquiries and provides technical assistance to Legislators and their staff on accounting and budget matters
  • Performs audits and processes expense and travel reimbursements for Legislators and their staff
  • Reviews and processes lease payments and other expenditures for Senate Districts
  • Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with Districts
  • Performs other related duties as required

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and three years of professional accounting or auditing experience; or a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or possession of a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) Certificate can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Professional or nonprofessional accounting or auditing experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree; or any combination of this experience and up to 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college education including two courses in accounting can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree.

  • Knowledge of State of Florida travel laws/rules

  • Knowledge of NACHA banking files
  • Knowledge of FLAIR / PALM
