Job summary

Ascendo Resources seeks a detail-oriented Controller to oversee day-to-day financial operations for a growing specialty finance organization. The role is hands-on, covering cash management, accounting, regulatory compliance, investor reporting, and financial operations while partnering with leadership.

You will own full-cycle bookkeeping, manage licensing and filings (NMLS/DFPI), and oversee funding and day-to-day activities with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Minimum 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and daily cash management.
• Experience in financial services, specialty finance, private lending, or fund administration is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily cash management, collections, and bank transfers.
• Manage accounts payable, invoice review, and expense tracking.
• Perform full-cycle bookkeeping across multiple accounts.
• Administer investor syndications and maintain investor records.
• Process commission payments and manage repayment activity including refunds.
• Maintain state licensing and regulatory filings (NMLS, DFPI).
• Prepare annual filings including 1099s.
• Monitor corporate credit card activity and liabilities.
• Collaborate with operations and processing teams to support funding and day-to-day activities.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure audit readiness.

What You'll Do

• Maintain state licensing and regulatory filings, including NMLS and DFPI reporting.

• Partner with operations and processing teams to support funding, collections, and day-to-day financial activities.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and daily cash management.
• Experience working in financial services, specialty finance, private lending, or fund administration is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with NMLS filings, state lending licenses, or similar regulatory reporting is a plus.
• Experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Excel, and business banking platforms.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
• High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
• CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
