Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the accounting team in Nicholasville, KY. You will lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for multiple entities and provide detailed reconciliations and journal entries to support accurate financial reporting.

The role requires a CPA, a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and at least 3 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong Excel and ERP skills, and experience with US GAAP are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA license is required.
• At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and month-end close.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Experience interpreting U.S. GAAP and maintaining internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for assigned units and entities.
• Prepare and review reconciliations, journal entries, financial schedules and workpapers.
• Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and share recommendations with management.
• Support profitability analysis, capital investments, and business initiatives.
• Monitor balance sheet activity and ensure internal controls compliance.
• Learn operational drivers and contract structures affecting performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting.
