Job summary

Amorim Cork Solutions seeks a Senior Accountant to ensure accurate financial records across general accounting, inventory valuation and freight analysis. You will collaborate with Operations, Sales, and Finance to support the monthly and annual close, prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and provide variance analysis under US GAAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
• 2+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Experience with SAP ERP system is preferred.
• Strong understanding of standard cost, variances, and cost analysis.
• Proficient with Excel (PivotTables, LOOKUPs).

Responsibilities

• Analyze and prepare intercompany transactions and reconcile intercompany AR/AP.
• Prepare journal entries for inventory and finance activities.
• Reconcile inventory and GL accounts.
• Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence and slow-moving stock.
• Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Review freight invoices and reconcile accruals with carriers and internal teams.
• Support ERP implementations, upgrades and process improvements.
• Review open POs and aged freight accruals for accuracy.
• Analyze freight expenses by customer/product/shipment to identify cost savings.

Job description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records and reporting, including general accounting, inventory valuation, freight analysis, account reconciliations, and other operational accounting activities. This position partners closely with Operations, Sales, and Finance to ensure accurate financial reporting, analysis of operating results, and identify opportunities to improve financial performance and efficiency.

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the monthly and annual financial close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, financial reporting, and other general accounting responsibilities. The position ensures financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and established internal controls.

Finance Department

• Analyze and prepare intercompany transactions, including the reconciliation and clearing of intercompany AR and AP balances.
• Review and reconcile cost allocations across multiple business units to ensure accuracy, consistency, and proper financial reporting.
• Prepare journal entries related to inventory and finance department activities.
• Reconcile inventory and general ledger accounts.
• Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, and slow-moving inventory.
• Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Assist with timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis.
• Support ERP implementations, upgrades, and process improvements.
• Review freight invoices for accuracy and investigate discrepancies with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal departments.
• Monitor freight accruals and reconcile accrued freight expenses to actual carrier and logistics invoices.
• Review open purchase orders and outstanding freight accruals to identify and resolve aged or inaccurate balances.
• Analyze freight expenses by customer, product, shipment, carrier, and business segment to identify trends and opportunities for cost improvement.
• Support the accounting and reconciliation of customs duties, tariffs, brokerage fees, and other import-related charges.
• Review customs documentation and import transactions to ensure HTS codes, duties, tariffs, and related expenses are properly recorded.

Costing

• Assist Cost Accountant with the preparation and analysis of material, labor, overhead, and manufacturing variances.
• Support the maintenance and review of standard costs by gathering and validating underlying financial and operational data.

Audit and Compliance

• Support internal and external audits related to inventory and cost accounting and general financial accounting.
• Maintain documentation supporting inventory valuation and costing methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• 2+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with SAP ERP system.
• Strong understanding of standard cost, manufacturing variances and cost analysis.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, LOOKUPs, etc.)
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Foreign currency exposure – EURO, USD conversions.
