The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the Los Angeles Pacific University finance team, critically ensuring the timely preparation of monthly financial statements according to GAAP and higher education guidelines in a high-volume setting. Taking ownership of the Jenzabar ERP system as the primary finance lead, this position is responsible for troubleshooting, in-depth analysis, and implementing effective solutions. Core responsibilities encompass reviewing and posting transactions, proactively identifying and proposing ERP system improvements, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, posting journal entries, contributing to variance analysis and financial closing processes, and managing the financial calendar. Furthermore, the Senior Accountant supports audit processes, oversees student tuition billing and financial aid activities, prepares regulatory filings, participates in grant management, stays abreast of accounting principles, and provides backup support to the Accounting Manager.

Core Hours for Full-Time Employees: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Pacific Time). During these hours, all employees should be available for communication and meetings. Outside these hours, flexible scheduling is permitted with manager approval.

Primary Location - Remote: This role is classified as "Remote" with the employee’s home office in a state LAPU is registered in (AZ, AR, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, KS, MN, MO, MT, NC, NM, OH, OR, PA, TX, TN, VA, WA, WI). Changes in residence may affect employment status.

Remote Expectation: Employees should manage their responsibilities with minimal distractions, making necessary arrangements for dependent care during work hours.

Compensation: Paygrade 12: $32.53-$36.05 (non-exempt/hourly).

Required Experience / Education:

  • Christian commitment and active faith
  • Supportive of LAPU’s evangelical mission
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related, with 3-5 years relevant experience

Desired Experience / Education:

  • Master’s degree (MBA, CPA, etc.) and/or over 5 years experience
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, audits, internal controls
  • ERP systems & financial reporting expertise

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements per GAAP and higher education standards in a high-volume environment
  • Lead on Jenzabar ERP troubleshooting, analysis, and solutions
  • Review transactions, propose system improvements, prepare reconciliations, post journals, perform variance analysis, and support month-end/year-end close
  • Maintain financial calendar, assist with audits, manage tuition billing, support policy development, and oversee financial aid functions
  • Prepare regulatory filings, participate in grant activities, and stay updated on accounting issues
