This role acts as the primary backup for Accounts Payable and Payroll for HPI and Medcost. The successful candidate will oversee month-end close, reconcile GL accounts, prepare variance analyses, and support internal/external

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, or Business preferred.
  • 10+ years in finance within a health plan or TPA environment are required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) for accuracy and GAAP compliance.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes with timely reporting.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; oversee journal entries and accruals.
  • Provide backup for payroll processing and accounts payable; support audits and inquiries.
  • Ensure documentation and internal controls are properly maintained.

Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the monthly accrual and review process for expenses. This position will assure all invoices not received by month end are included in the monthly financials. For the month end financial close process this position will analyze the financial results as compared to budget and prior month results and prepare reports showing variance analysis. This role will also be the primary back up for the Accounts Payable and Payroll process for HPI and is the primary processor of Accounts Payable and Payroll for Medcost.

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
  • Prepare and review financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, verifying entries and resolving discrepancies.
  • Oversee journal entries, including accruals, adjustments, and corrections.
  • Monitor and ensure proper documentation for all transactions
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure integrity of financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., GAAP, IFRS, tax laws).
  • Support internal and external audits, preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable.
  • Provide backup and oversight for the payroll process.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, or Business related discipline preferred.
Minimum Experience Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in Finance department at a third-party administrator of health plans
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll processing
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; experienced in collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and customers to resolve inquiries
  • Skilled at working cross-functionally to identify and resolve business process challenges
  • Excellent knowledge of MS office and familiarity with relevant computer software (e.g. SAP)
Preferred Experience Requirements
  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA is a plus
Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
