Job summary

Mission Edge is hiring a Senior Accountant in San Diego, CA to manage full-cycle accounting for nonprofits under fiscal sponsorship. You’ll prepare timely financial statements, oversee payables/receivables, and ensure grant compliance while supporting budgeting and audits.

The role reports to the Controller in a hybrid work environment with generous PTO and volunteer time off. A strong GAAP background and 6+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience in a fast-growing environment
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Strong grasp of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
• Comfort with accounting software and strong Excel skills
• Attention to detail, organization, and prioritization when many items move at once
• Clear, honest communication and proactive reporting to leadership

Responsibilities

• Handle full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of fiscally sponsored programs, from journals to month-end close
• Prepare accurate financial statements and reporting for internal leadership and programs
• Manage accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger activity with accuracy
• Track restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure grant/donor compliance
• Assist budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and year-end audit preparation
• Identify process improvements to scale operations

What you'll do

• Full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of fiscally sponsored programs - from journal entries and reconciliations to month-end close
• Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and reporting for internal leadership and the programs we support
• Manage accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger activity with a sharp eye for accuracy
• Track restricted and unrestricted funds and help ensure grant and donor compliance
• Support budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and year-end audit preparation
• Spot process improvements and help us build cleaner, faster ways to work as we scale

What you bring

• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a fast-growing or high-volume environment
• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Strong grasp of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
• Comfort with accounting software and strong Excel skills
• Sharp attention to detail, strong organization, and the judgment to prioritize when a lot is moving at once
• Clear, honest communication - you share what you see early and often

Not required, but a plus:

nonprofit or fund accounting experience, familiarity with fiscal sponsorship, or a CPA. If you've got general accounting chops and the drive to grow, we want to hear from you - we'll teach you the nonprofit side.
