Job summary

Cove Communities is seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage general ledger, support budgeting and variance analysis, and assist in forecasting across our real estate portfolio. The role requires travel to properties and close collaboration with property leadership and the finance team.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance with 2–5 years of property or real estate accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency in NetSuite, Yardi, MRI or QuickBooks, plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
  • 2–5 years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate financial practices.
  • Proficient in accounting software (NetSuite, Yardi, MRI, QuickBooks).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger entries and ensure accurate property-level accounting.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely collection and payment.
  • Assist property general manager with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Monitor and analyze budget vs. actual results; investigate variances.
  • Prepare and file property-related taxes (real estate and sales tax).
  • Coordinate and support internal/external audits for properties.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Liaise with department leaders.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Property Accountant to manage the financial operations of a real estate portfolio. This role will be responsible for performing general ledger accounting, providing support for variance analysis, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting. This position will include travel to the property.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain general ledger entries and ensure accurate property-level accounting
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely collection and payment
  • Assist property general manager with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Monitor and analyze budget vs. actual results; investigate and explain variances
  • Prepare and file property-related taxes, including real estate taxes and sales tax as applicable
  • Coordinate and support audit for related property (internal and external)
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Liaise with department leaders
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–5 years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate financial practices
  • Proficient in accounting software preferred (e.g., NetSuite, Yardi, MRI, QuickBooks)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Experience with multi-property or multi-entity accounting preferred
  • Familiarity with real estate investment structures and reporting
