Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for domestic projects in compliance with GAAP.
• Prepare budgets and forecasts for domestic operations with project managers.
• Monitor cash flow and implement cost controls for domestic projects.
• Develop and enforce internal controls and assist with audits with external auditors.
• Coordinate tax filings for state and local taxes and respond to authorities.

Senior Accountant – Domestic Westland Construction

Westland Construction is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our domestic accounting and finance team. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and will be responsible for overseeing financial operations across domestic projects, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to strategic financial planning. We're looking for someone who can jump in and hit the ground running.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for domestic projects, in compliance with GAAP
• Manage the preparation of budgets and forecasts for domestic operations, collaborating with regional finance teams and project managers to ensure alignment with project timelines and financial goals
• Monitor cash flow and implement cost control measures across domestic projects, ensuring financial sustainability and profitability
• Develop and enforce internal control procedures, oversee the execution of audits, and manage the preparation of audit documentation in collaboration with external auditors
• Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations, including sales/use tax and other state and local tax requirements; coordinate tax filings and resolve any issues with tax authorities
• Provide comprehensive financial analysis to senior management, offering insights and recommendations for improving financial performance
• Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and senior leadership to provide financial guidance and support decision-making
• Oversee the implementation and management of financial systems and ERP solutions to streamline accounting operations and reporting

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, tax regulations, and industry-specific financial practices
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore), advanced Excel skills, and experience with financial analysis too
• ls Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across teams and with senior leadership

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 4-5 years of experience in accounting or finance in a similar role; construction industry experience preferred

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
