Job summary

The Senior Accountant at Omaha Airport Authority maintains the integrity of the general ledger and financial records through accurate accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and analysis. This salaried, exempt position supports month-end and year-end close and serves as a key member of the Administration Department.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA Certificate is not required, but a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in general ledger accounting.
  • Experience processing payroll, including union payroll, preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience implementing or working with an ERP and payroll system.
  • Must be able to exercise solid, independent and discrete judgment with respect to departmental issues and certain financial matters involving the Authority’s business operations.
  • Able to work efficiently and professionally with others.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work independently.
  • Possess good organizational skills to manage time effectively and establish priorities.
  • Ability to mentor and develop others.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Highest level of confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of the Authority's general ledger, including preparing complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting the monthly and annual financial close.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and account analyses, ensuring compliance with GAAP, Authority policies, and bond requirements.
  • Manage the Authority's fixed asset accounting, including construction-in-progress accounting, capitalization, depreciation, asset disposals, and related reconciliations.
  • Assist with the annual independent audit, annual budget, and other regulatory or financial reporting requirements.
  • Review and provide accounting oversight for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions to ensure transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Support financial systems implementations, process improvements, and internal control initiatives that improve efficiency and strengthen financial reporting.

This is a salaried, exempt position in the Administration Department. The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager.

Essential Job Functions
