Job summary

Ledgebrook seeks an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team. You will own monthly and quarterly close, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting across several legal entities, reporting to the Assistant Controller.

You will leverage AI tools to improve efficiency and help scale accounting processes in a fast-paced, ground-up environment. This role supports cross-functional initiatives with operations, product, tech, and data teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, specializing in premium recognition, claims and reserves.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and proficient in Microsoft Excel. Workday experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of using AI tools to improve or automate financial processes.
  • Experience implementing or improving finance systems or processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently in a collaborative and fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare consolidated accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Own key components of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Mentor and supervise Staff Accountant.
  • Assist with documentation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures.
  • Leverage modern finance tools and AI-based solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting insights.
  • Assist in identifying process improvements and automation of accounting workflows.
  • Support external audit processes and preparation of supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the company’s internal control environment.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support ad hoc projects and new business initiatives.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing Accounting team who will report directly to the Assistant Controller.

As Ledgebrook continues to scale, our Finance function is also scaling - we are building a team of professionals that have deep insurance and finance expertise, are passionate about leveraging AI and high-tech systems, and are excited to support a company that is building from the ground up.

This role will be responsible for key areas of the monthly and quarterly close, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting support, and accounting analysis across multiple legal entities.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Assistant Controller and broader Finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while helping strengthen accounting processes, controls, and scalability as the organization grows.

This position is well suited for an accountant who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, enjoys taking ownership of accounting processes, and is interested in expanding their knowledge of insurance accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

Compensation
  • The base salary range for this position is $130-$150k.
  • This is a good-faith compensation range based on what Ledgebrook reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location.
  • Employees in this position are eligible to participate in Ledgebrook’s equity incentive program.
