Senior Accountant, Lease Accounting & General Accounting Operations
Location: South Florida (Miami-Dade area) | Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
THIS POSITION CAN BE FULLY REMOTE OR HYBRID IN MIAM, FL
About the Company
Our client is a well-established, privately held distribution company with a multi-location operating footprint and a company-owned vehicle fleet supporting its logistics operations. The company has scaled significantly in recent years and continues to invest in its facilities and infrastructure. This is an opportunity to join a finance team supporting a company in active growth mode, with real ownership over a technical and operationally meaningful piece of the accounting function.
Position Summary
The company is seeking a Senior Accountant to take ownership of lease accounting under ASC 842 while contributing broadly to month-end close, fixed assets, and general ledger accuracy across a multi-location operating environment. This role is well suited to someone who wants technical depth in lease accounting combined with exposure to the full accounting cycle of a complex, asset-intensive business.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the ASC 842 lease accounting process end to end, including classification, measurement, modifications, renewals, and disclosure schedules across a large and active portfolio of facility and equipment/fleet leases
- Maintain and reconcile the lease accounting system or subledger, ensuring right-of-use assets and lease liabilities are accurately stated each period
- Support monthly and quarterly close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis across multiple entities and locations
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals
- Support inventory-related accounting processes, including cost of goods sold and inventory reconciliations
- Assist with intercompany eliminations and consolidated reporting across multiple operating locations
- Support preparation of schedules and reporting packages used for lender or ownership reporting, including covenant-related calculations as needed
- Assist with accounting for transactions involving foreign currency exposure
- Partner with FP&A, operations, and external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit
- Identify and help implement process improvements as the company scales its accounting infrastructure
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or active pursuit of CPA a plus
- 3 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience, with direct, hands-on ASC 842 lease accounting experience required
- Experience with a multi-entity or multi-location operating structure strongly preferred
- Experience in distribution, logistics, or manufacturing industries is a plus, but not required
- Strong Excel skills and experience with a mid-size or enterprise ERP system
- Experience working in a private equity-backed or lender-reporting environment is a plus
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, growing organization
- Clear communicator who can work cross-functionally with operations and finance leadership
What the Company Offers
- Competitive base salary and benefits package
- Direct exposure to senior finance leadership and to the accounting infrastructure of a scaling, institutionally backed company
- A technically substantive lease accounting mandate rather than a narrow, siloed role
- Long-term growth path within a company actively investing in its finance function
