Job summary

The Encompass Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its team in Mesa, AZ. This role focuses on construction accounting, including AIA billing, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and project-based accounting.

You will manage GL projects, enhance month-end processes, and prepare financial reports for management. Strong ERP and Excel skills, plus 3–5+ years in construction accounting, are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in construction accounting, ideally with a contractor or project-based organization.
• Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, AIA billing, lien waivers, and project accounting.
• Solid knowledge of GAAP and accounting procedures.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly AIA pay apps and billings using percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Oversee accounts receivable activities, monitor aging, follow up on balances, and resolve billing issues.
• Prepare, review, and collect monthly subcontractor and vendor lien waivers.
• Manage project accounting activities, GL project assignments, documentation, and closeout.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and support month-end close.
• Maintain GL, reconcile balance sheet accounts, research discrepancies, and prepare adjustments.
• Prepare financial reports and analyses to support management decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly AIA pay applications and customer billings, applying percentage-of-completion revenue recognition principles.
• Oversee accounts receivable activities, monitor aging reports, follow up on outstanding balances, and resolve billing discrepancies.
• Prepare, review, and collect monthly subcontractor and vendor lien waivers.
• Manage project accounting activities, including general ledger project assignments, documentation, and project closeout.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and support the month-end close process.
• Maintain the general ledger, reconcile balance sheet accounts, research discrepancies, and prepare adjustments as needed.
• Prepare financial reports and analyses to support management decision-making.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated experience in construction accounting, ideally with a contractor or project-based construction organization.

• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• Experience working with construction project accounting systems and processes.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or other advanced ERP platforms.
• Experience preparing financial reports and supporting external audits.
