Job summary

We Search People partners with a national retail and commercial construction company to hire a Senior Project Accountant in Boston, MA. You will report to the Assistant Controller and oversee all accounting functions for construction projects, including AIA billing, payables, and budget monitoring.

The role requires 3–5 years of leadership experience, proficiency in Procore and Sage 300, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited program.
  • 3–5 years experience as a team lead, supervisor or manager.
  • Experience in commercial construction; Procore and Sage 300 experience.
  • Strong understanding of formulas in Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Full understanding of AIA billing, payment applications, waiver collection, and certified payroll.
  • Run weekly billing and AR reports, billing meetings, and ensure invoices loaded to customer portals and confirmed received.
  • Review AIA contracts to ensure accurate billing requirements and proactively push billing to meet monthly and quarterly deadlines.
  • Contact customers to resolve 90+ day open balances and maintain all collection activity records including payment schedules and correspondence.
  • Manage cash applications ensuring all receipts are applied accurately and on time in Sage.
  • Review budgets with Project Managers and process subcontractor change orders, RFCs, and non-committed invoicing.
  • Review and enter approved subcontractor and vendor invoices, ensure compliance with company standards, and manage preliminary notices and dual party check agreements.
  • Develop and implement billing policies, procedures, and training to drive efficient invoicing practices and prevent recurring errors.
  • Attend monthly WIP meetings, provide weekly payment forecasts, and deliver ad hoc reporting as required.

Job description

We are partnered with a national retail and commercial construction company who are looking for a Senior Project Accountant. Including but not limited to accounts payable processing, budget monitoring, and requisition preparation.

Responsibilities in the role:

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience as a team lead, supervisor or manager
  • Experience in commercial construction
  • Experience using Procore and Sage 300
  • Strong understanding of formulas in Excel
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a high column environment
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills are a must
